Walker County GAWalker County Animal Shelter |

Letter sent to the commissioner from a former volunteer Hello Commissioner Hope you have been having a good New Year because I have not. You continue to allow the animals at the shelter to be PTS when there is space and not giving rescues a chance to help. The rescue rate has dropped 20% in 9 months since Ms. Smith has been there. She is killing 9 out of 10 animals and this was by her own words. There is no exposure for the animals to get adopted as she will not take pictures and put them on Petfinders, which you already have one there, just no pictures. She is very hateful to people that call and to not answer the phone during shelter hours is not acceptable if you care about the animals lives. You care about your animals, I hope, but why don't you care about those at the shelter? Her decision on who she will put down is based on who comes out to greet her in the mornings. This also came out of her own mouth, just like she stated that Curtis had been killing the cats either by hitting them against the wall or using a hammer since she has been there. That was told to two of us by her. Do you find this acceptable? Do you find injection in the stomach acceptable? Do you find putting an animal down, because you don't like them acceptable? Also, her animal records are not kept right nor straight. I am very upset about #94, a baby boxer mix. She had him on her list to be put down. I told her on Wednesday I would get him on Saturday before Christmas when I brought her other donations down. Just 3 days and the shelter was closed. Please tell me what happened to him and don't say he was adopted out without proof. I have his picture if you would like to see him. He needed worming and I had given her the meds including the vaccines, so don't say he was sick either I would appreciate any answers you can give me or will give me. There has been a lot of letters and e-mails that have gone unanswered by you. Are you going to continue to let this killing go on? How can you sleep at night? These animals have no voice to speak out for themselves, they are at the mercy of your new shelter manager. The only time you hear them, is when they are injected and then they scream, when it is not done properly, sometimes for as long as 3 hours. How would you feel if you were treated this way? I have more to say, but will wait for your response on this e-mail. Thanking you in advance for your cooperation. |

Tapes from former workers on conditions they saw when they were there. Warning: Graphic Former employee
|

In the new Walker County tape made by Michael, the former shelter employee, he mentions that Ronnie, an AC officer at Walker County shelter, is a really good guy. I just wanted to point out that he is the one who shot a dog at a restaurant in front of the customers. All the AC officers carry guns. It was a small dog and one guy asked Ronnie if he could help him catch it. Ronnie told him he could handle it. He put food out for the dog and when it came to eat he shot it in the side. The customer started screaming at him asking why he shot the dog and he said 'because the restaurant owner said to get rid of the dog any way he needed to. He didn't care if he shot it, but get it out of there.'. The dog was running screaming with blood going everywhere. Ronnie got the stick, looped the rope around it's neck, and threw the dog on his truck while it was still screamin in pain and said he would finish the job at the shelter. He was suspended for three days only after the customer came to the North Georgia Animal League meeting asking for help and went to the commissioner complaining. Had he not complained there would have been no punishment at all. This is how much the commissioner of Walker County cares about the animals of her county. Name withheld. |

This little tyke had a rescue Allison was to hold as he was to be rescued. When they went for him he was gone and she says she has no idea where he is. No one can seem to find out what happened to him. |
