In Memory of BoBo

September 29, 2006

Poor, poor "BoBo". BoBo once had a home where he thought he was loved and safe. However, BoBo's family surrendered him to animal control....they no longer wanted BoBo.
You can look into BoBo's eyes and you can see the fear and confusion....it is heartbreaking.
He was trembling from head to toe. He could not take his eyes off the parking lot as his family drove away....how could they?

The rates of "adoptable" animals being put to sleep there (that have happened as a result of the staff's incompetence and lack of compassion) are alarming.

For example, there was an "adoptable" dog (named Bobo) who people had been calling to rescue on Tuesday (9/26) and Wednesday (9/27) (and were not getting any answers at any of the shelter's numbers) - who was put to sleep Wednesday morning. People had left countless messages that they wanted this dog and were going to the shelter to pick him up.. And the calls/messages went ignored. .. Their response later in the day when asked what happened to Bobo was - "he was put to sleep - he was trembling when they did it!"

There was no reason for this adoptable animal to be put to sleep as it was not because of a lack of space - they have done this too many times to use that same excuse --- but rather pure carelessness, and incompetence on the part of the staff --- and a lack of compassion for the animals that are at this facility.

NOTE!

(From someone who called to save him.)

I called them this morning and begged and offered them money and promised he would be pulled before the end of the day but the young woman from Georgia on the other end said "I can not disturb them. They are in the back."  I knew exactly what she meant. I called again and was told the vet was with them in the back and again they can not be disturbed !! I asked please ?!! NO , in a very matter of fact voice , we can not disturb them . I offered money again ; she said the money wouldn't make any difference .   I called back a third time and someone else answered and she said he had been listed since the 19th , and people had called , but no one came to get him. I told her i just saw his plea at 2 in the morning for the first time and I was working real hard on it right now. I gave her my phone number and begged her to give it to them, I said is there a phone in the room "NO" , can we page someone's beeper "NO". She said if someone comes out to use the bathroom she would give them my phone number.

Then This ALSO!!!!

BoBo was killed because they would not wait for his rescuer who drove for two hours straight to save him for the 15 minutes more it would have taken her to get there !!!! and she called them and told them she was 15 minutes away and her husband called , and told them the same thing! They did not care! They refused to wait !!!!!!!!

We later learned some of the people here actually hate animals.!!!!!!!!!!! But they are in charge of their care!!

It's a very imperfect system at Coweta. They are ultra rescue unfriendly & could care less if animals are saved or not. The person who wanted to rescue Bobo DID call the shelter early Wed. morning ... she begged & pleaded w/Lt. Williams not to kill him cuz she was on her way but he told her he was going to kill him in 15 minutes & would not wait for her to get there.

Other shelters would have waited & been happy rescue was on the way but not Coweta. In an ideal world, it's nice if you can save dogs in a more timely fashion but often when you're dealing w/life & death situations, you don't have the luxury of time & bottom line is, it shouldn't matter if it's days, hours or minutes in advance - if rescue is coming, you don't kill an animal.

PLEASE HELP!!

Please send letters to the Investigative Div.Of the AG's office in GA...

Dear Sir/Madam,

I was wondering if you would be so kind as to pass this on to whomever would be in charge of investigating this animal shelter's activities.

The shelter is called:

Would you please turn this matter over to whomever does investigations -- there are a lot of people who are really upset about what has happened ----
A dog was put to sleep when they knew a rescuer was on her way to get him and apparently it is not the first time that an adoptable animal has suffered the same fate at this shelter's hands.

Please help stop the killing of adoptable animal sat this shelter.

Thank you,

Do this in Memory of BoBo

Others who were killed that had rescues coming!!

As Mahatma Ghandi said, "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated."

Why am I being put to sleep
When there is a promise I need to keep
Of playing, snuggling and giving joy
To a little girl or lonely boy.
God put me here to make them glad,
Did I do something wrong?
Was I bad?
